This happened recently to a midlands based manufacturer of automotive components on Saturday lunchtime. A critical CNC machine suffered a catastrophic failure when the Z-Axis ballscrew snapped in two.
Fortunately, Ballscrew Services Ltd had previously carried out an onsite survey of the manufacturing equipment and catalogued all of the ballscrews with unique identities. A brief phone call enabled Ballscrew Services to quickly identify the product and set about machining a replacement from stock components.
The replacement Ballscrew was delivered by courier at 6.30pm, 6 hours after the machine failure.
